Ufuk Celebi created FLINK-1810:
----------------------------------

Summary: UpdateTask message contains unused information
                 Key: FLINK-1810
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FLINK-1810
             Project: Flink
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: Distributed Runtime
    Affects Versions: master
            Reporter: Ufuk Celebi
            Priority: Minor

When deploying tasks to a task manager it not guaranteed that all results are
already consumable. In such cases, the InputGate of the receiver creates
"UnknownInputChannel" instances, which are updated during runtime to Local- or
RemoteInputChannel instances.

The UpdateTask Akka message which triggers this update contains unused
information (the producing task's execution attempt ID) to identify which
channel to update. I found this confusing when looking over the code and
actually thought that it was a bug (because the unused information was actually
erroneous).
