Someone raised a Jira issue to ask about the next release. I closed it as that
is not the
proper place to ask about releases. This list is the correct place to discuss
it.

I recently committed an enhancement to Flume Configuration to allow it to get
it’s
configuration via URI(s) as I have a need to host the Flume Configuration in
Spring
Cloud Config Server. I also upgraded the checkstyle plugin. But much more is
required
to perform a release:
1. Many dependencies are outdated and showing up on security scans. Those
dependencies must be updated and the affected components must be tested.
2. There are quite a few PRs that need to be reviewed and possibly applied.

As it stands, it seems I am the only PMC member or committer who has an
interest or the time to take on this work. However, I too have other
commitments. For
one, I first have to get a new release of Log4j 2 out. But it is in much better
shape so
that should be completed in the next few weeks.

The PMC still has at least 3 members who are available to vote on releases so
there
is no issue with the project still being viable from an ASF perspective, but we
desperately could use new committers to help maintain the project.

In summary, my hope is that a new Flume release will be available by the end of
the year.
