This problem seems to have gone away - at least the original problem, not sure about Ross' scenario. I created a copy of index.xml and called it index_test.xml, placed in the root xdocs folder. I then added it to site.xml. Forrest Run - it works fine. I then ran forrestbot and uploaded it (same as doing a 'forrest site') and it works fine.
