I just did an "svn up" without problems, so it would appear to be a problem on your client end.
The mail thread you link to above has some suggestions about clearing the local cache, did you try that?
If that doesn't work I'm afraid I am at a loss for what to suggest other than a fresh checkout or take it up with the SVN lists.
