The Apache Forrest project has seen little activity for a long time, and there has not been a release since 2011.
As noted in the quarterly Board reports [1], for years the Forrest PMC has been keeping the project in maintenance mode. Recent board reports have indicated a move to the Apache Attic. A thread was commenced on the project mailing lists to provide an opportuntity for people to discuss that possibility and to re-engage [2]. There was no further discussion. Note that the project resources would still be available. There would be no further releases. The Apache Forrest PMC would be terminated by Board resolution, and the Apache Attic PMC would instead have the oversight. This vote thread is to confirm the desire of the project, being the next step in the Attic process [3]. The general voting process is explained at the Forrest project guidelines [4]. This situation was not anticipated by the guidelines. So in this case anyone can vote. So please vote whether Apache Forrest will be retired and moved to the Attic: +1 yes move to the Attic -1 the project should continue, and indicates commitment to revitalise the project The three outcomes could be: A) There are three or more people voting -1, saying that they would instead like the project to continue and agree to be involved. In this case, a probable course would be to go via the Apache Incubator [5] to revitalise the community. B) The normal positive outcome, with three or more +1 votes. C) Insufficent votes indicates a dormant PMC. So in those latter cases, the remainder of the Attic process would ensue. Also note that even after moving to the Attic, there are processes defined there regarding moving out again. The vote will run for one month to be summarised on 11 December.
