Dear Apache Geode Developer Community, As we approach the creation of the support/2.0 branch on December 1, 2025—and begin preparing the first 2.0 release candidate shortly afterward—I’d like to highlight an area where a little shared generosity and our collective effort can make a meaningful difference for the upcoming 2.0 release.
There are currently a number of open pull requests on the Apache Geode GitHub repository (https://github.com/apache/geode/pulls). Many of these represent thoughtful work, careful design, and real dedication from contributors across the community. I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to everyone who has contributed, reviewed, provided guidance, or supported others. Many of you have given your time and energy generously, gone above and beyond, and the project is truly better because of your efforts. I fully recognize that this time of year stretches all of us—including myself—with deadlines, holidays, travel, and personal commitments. We have 121 committers and 33 PMC members—an incredible resource for the project. The currently active contributors are doing fantastic work, and there’s a great opportunity for more of us to join in and help strengthen the project even further. While a small group has been carrying much of the review workload, I deeply appreciate the herculean efforts Sai and Arnout have put into their invaluable reviews. With dozens of PRs still awaiting attention and the release branch cut approaching, a bit of shared support from more members of the community would help immensely as we approach the 2.0 milestone. If you have even a little capacity and would like to pay it forward, show kindness, or share your generosity, contributions such as reviewing a PR, offering a suggestion, or helping someone move their work forward can have a big impact. Sharing the effort ensures we continue fostering a healthy, vibrant, and sustainable collaboration culture. As we enter a season centered around gratitude and generosity, I would truly appreciate any time you can offer—no matter how modest—to help clear the path for a smooth 2.0 release. In the coming weeks, it would be especially helpful if we could: -Identify PRs that are strong candidates for inclusion in 2.0 -Provide timely review feedback or approvals where possible -Delegate reviews when personal bandwidth is limited -Close or redirect items that no longer align with project goals -Support contributors who need guidance completing remaining work Thank you again for everything you’ve contributed—your dedication, patience, creativity, and the sacrifices you’ve made to help move Geode forward. I’m grateful to be part of this community, and I deeply appreciate your continued support as we move toward a successful 2.0 release. Wishing you a warm, restful, and joyful holiday season ahead. May the coming weeks bring you time with loved ones, moments of gratitude and reflection, and a well-deserved chance to recharge. Warmest regards, Best regards, Jinwoo Hwang (he/him/his) SAS® Research and Development http://JinwooHwang.com<http://jinwoohwang.com/>
