Here's the latest iteration of the welcome page with a single click
install of the examples. The welcome page begins with a "Click here to
install examples". This is a direct upfront message to the user that
clrealy tells him he has to install the examples to get them. The user
is not (mis)led to be believe that he has the examples readily
available when he actually has to install them first.

The click installs all 2 examples (jsp-examples and servlets-examples)
and the page refreshes with links to those examples. Now the examples
are readily available.

Dave C, feel free to give finishing touches to the welcome page and
the login page as it aesthetically appeals to you.

The images have been uploaded to
http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GERONIMO-1900.

Cheers
Prasad.

Nice work Prasad!!

This provides a much simpler and intuitive way to install the default
examples.

I know the current panel is just a quick prototype to prove the approach
though figured I'd share a few thoughts while it is fresh
in my mind..

- User clicks one of the default samples (i.e. servlets-examples,
jsp-examples)
The panel that appears has the following characteristics:
- Different look and feel than the admin console
- Simple Geronimo Logo
- Text "The Default examples are not installed, would you like to
install them now? This requires internet connectivity."
- Box for "Yes" and "Cancel"
- Selecting "Cancel" returns to Welcome Menu
- Selecting "Yes" results in a authentication challenge that defaults to
system/manager and text "Please specify Geronimo administration id and
password.
- If authentication fails re-prompt three time and then fail
- If authentication works then install and start *all* the default samples
- If sample installation fails return "Samples installation failed"
   returning reason (if possible)
- If sample installation works redirect to the originally requested example.
- Do not prompt for repository or rep id/pw but rather use the defaults
that the community establishes.
- If installation fails then we will have to document how to grab them
via the admin console "plugin" portlet or install them manually.

I view this process as a specific case for the default samples. A more
generic solution for other samples, apacheds, ldap-realm, etc. would
currently use the admin console plugin page (perhaps we doc this on the
welcome page). In the future, the community should decide if the admin
console is the best spot for installing/uninstalling geronimo plugins.

BTW, was originally planning on posting this to the devlist though
suspect my internal usability role doesn't map well to this environment..

Lets discuss..

Thanks
-Dave-
