Hey Lewis, Thanks for initiating this. It is sad news, but I think that is the reasonable thing to do atm. I don't think anybody has been working with the project for a while now, and things have changed quite a bit in the "big data ecosystem" for us to try to just get it going again and I don't know how we could revive the project after so long.
