This is a Git, Bazaar, Mercurial feature, not a GitHub feature. Apart
from the fact that DVCS is just better than CVCS, not having extra
(e.g. .svn) directories scattered around a working tree is the a hugely
important thing -- it means running scripts over the codebase is far,
far easier.
