Ok, the extension hierarchy seems to cover all the new requirements. I'll go this way until anyone else will post a better solution.
Seems like the best solution to me. The old `sonar` plugin uses the same approach (extension named `sonar`, type `SonarRootModel` vs. `SonarProjectModel`). Looking forward to this contribution.
