+1 I'd add that we should define what "stable" means. Currently 0.94 is the latest version of HBase out there (that I know of at least) in large production installs. To me that makes it the most stable version in terms of the number of unknown unknowns. On the other hand we have fixed a bunch of known issues since 0.94, so 0.98 has fewer known unknowns :)
