We at least need the API extra-doc on getTypeByte (with maybe pointer from
getType) and note in upgrade section of refguide. Your @deprecation works
for me too as a way to flag users to take a deeper look.

Its too late for this RC. Transferring your -0 on the patch up on
HBASE-19746 here as vote on this release (say...), this RC could still go
out as 2.0.0.

If it fails for another reason, lets get your suggested patch in sir. Mark
the 'doc' issue a blocker on 2.0.0 please. If it fails to make 2.0.0, lets
get it into 2.0.1.
