If we can fit those tests into a reasonable timeframe, so that the RM is not overloaded then it's a good idea.
There are a few caveats: Phoenix HBase support is only added after a new Hbase minor release, so Phoenix may not yet support the release. Also, Phoenix tests are in a rough place lately, so determining if the failures are related to HBase is not always trivial. Hive builds with an older Hbase, but relies on external HBase libraries (hbase mapredcp) in production. Overriding the HBase version for the hive HBase tests may or may not work (modules / transitive dependencies may have changed). I don't know if there is a easy way to run Hive tests against an external HBase install and libraries.
