I think this is as good as it gets. I'll probably tweak things a little but 
overall everything looks sane to me. I'll be able to commit the patch only 
after releasing 4.3.1 and branching out stable 4.3.x branch, though. This may 
take a week or two, depending on how painful 4.3.1 turns out to be.
