There are currently two versions of append in Hadoop. The original append in
20, was quite buggy but has been improved to support hbase. The latest CDH
releases have these improvements. In Apache 21, a new version of append was
released. However, 21 is not a production release. Future Apache releases are
expected to use the new append.
