I'm bumping into this a lot lately....and I've just had enough from removing my
{{ql/target/classes} dir by hand and building again..
executing the following script:

git clean -dfx
mvn install -pl ql -DskipTests -am
echo >>
ql/src/java/org/apache/hadoop/hive/ql/parse/UpdateDeleteSemanticAnalyzer.java
mvn install -pl ql -DskipTests

results in a compilation error; probably because incremental compilation have
some issues keeping track the template arguments...
