I'm actually working on HIVE-3632, which is similar to this, yet having a
different motivation. I'm yet to be convinced that a DB upgrade is required,
and even if so, it seems unrelated to DN upgrade (but rather out of a bug in
the metastore schema definition). That is yet to be seen, as review goes on for
HIVE-3632.
As far as Hibernate is concerned, I think it was excluded at very beginning due
to incompatible license.
