So one thing that was just brought to my attention 10 minutes ago is HIVE-5286
- apparently JDK7 will correctly parse dates of the format 'YYYY-M-D', as well
as 'YYYY-MM-DD'. So I don't think that string comparison of dates will always
do the correct comparison anymore.
I think this also means we may need to change the conversion rules when
comparing dates and strings - I believe it currently converts both to string.
