This patch probably doesn't apply as I haven't pulled from trunk for a couple
of weeks. But I wanted to post it as a work in progress since I made quite a
few changes since the last patch. Those changes include:
* many bug fixes
* switched to using a jdbc pool rather than having a connection per thread
* added functionality needed by the compactor (HIVE-6319)
* added functionality needed by parser changes for SHOW TRANSACTIONS, etc.
