*hive.metastore.try.direct.sql* was introduced in release 0.12 by HIVE-4051.
*hive.metastore.try.direct.sql.ddl* was introduced in release 0.13 by HIVE-5626.
Neither parameter has a description in hive-default.xml.template or a comment
in HiveConf.java. [~sershe], would you please write descriptions for these
parameters so I can put them in the wiki?
