Alan Gates commented on HIVE-7974:
----------------------------------
A few questions
# Why is it important to move this out of HCat and into a top level hive
directory? I'm not opposed (though see next question), I just don't understand
why it's worth the effort.
# What are the backward compatibility implications? I know of users who do use
the messaging feature. Are we sure these changes won't cause any issues?
# The patch doesn't include removal of the old hcatalog package. Is that just
because it's hard to do that in a patch and you are planning to remove them at
check in, or are you planning to leave the existing hcatalog package in place?
