As of right now, we have no plans to add 'deflate' support. I'm not aware of any browsers/client that support 'deflate' rather than 'gzip.' My guess is that the encapsulation format is slightly different than with gzip, but I really haven't sat down to look at the relevant RFCs. It might be easy, but it might be hard.
