Thanks for the explanation. Your mail contains interesting and valid points, but
I still see no reason to include this in the distribution of httpd.

1. I guess for more complex sites (and this where I see the most benefit of 
sitemaps)
   the solution must be customized to the application anyway. I think in some 
cases
   this map would need to be generated dynamically by the application itself.

2. At least currently sitemap seems to be a beta feature of Google and maybe 
subject
   to change regarding the details. Furthermore I understand the code will 
remain under
   Googles control, which means that the repositories have to be synced.
   So I think it would be more beneficial for the httpd users to mention
   sitemaps in the documentation and point them to the Google site for more 
details /
   code.

BTW: Have you though of donating a helper libarary for sitemaps to the Jakarta 
commons project
once all details are fixed?
