Because default configuration doesn't work without it.
Either the compat module should be added or all deprecated
directives should me removed.
Hmm, then I'd prefer the latter instead of providing a compat module by
default.
In that case IMHO other docs should be updated as well
where the deprecated directives are effectively promoted as valid
or as examples.
