+1 (to your final comment on that bug), with one comment:

That's changing a familiar default: at least leave the
text/plain in but commented :-)

Which raises a slightly bigger question.  Can we do a better job
of keeping a record of changes likely to affect many users, and
perhaps ship a "2.2-compat" configuration?  Our CHANGES is a
detailed record that few will have the stomach to read, and could
perhaps use an executive summary ("GOTCHAS"?)
