Yes, I'd be trying something like that. You can insert inflate (and deflate) unconditionally, as they will check the headers themselves and remove themselves if appropriate. But I'd make at least the deflate component of that configurable: many sysops may prefer to sacrifice compression to avoid that unnecessary overhead. -- Nick Kew
