Eric, a little off-topic, but the Raku (formerly Perl 6) developers have
some instructions for MacOS users compiling from sources.

Take a look at <https://rakudo.org/downloads/source> and follow the links
to MacOS which discuss using Homebrew for building. It may give you a clue.

The devs are friendly folks and I'm sure they would be glad to help. Quite
a few Raku experts use MacOS for there main host.
