Running both shows in a single year requires a lot of effort and coordination
but I think it's the biggest bang for the buck and between the large corp
sponsors we can make it happen.
Alternating leaves one group out every year and FOMO results in unnecessary
travel, which is what we're trying to avoid.
Streaming and recording both sessions is more expensive and adds complexity but
in this day and age is a must.

+1 to both events (NA + EU)

Even with virtual events, time zones are a large barrier for attendees. Having
both events or alternating is the best way to accommodate vastly different time
zones.

I would love to have an event that's easier for non-us'ian members of the
community to get to! I wouldn't mind just alternating NA and EU (and Asia?) but
if we can find enough sponsorship and content I wouldn't mind multiple events.

Also +1 for hybrid. We should definitely keep the virtual days, they were
helpful for the overall community to participate.

I'm happy to be the MC again as needed :)

+2 for me (NA and EU) :)

I, and Microsoft, are very much in favor of having two summits to accommodate
Iceberg's large and growing international community.

I would be inclined to attend an EU summit but not a NA one.

I was chair of the ASF Community over Code EU 2024 and am willing to help
organize, though I do not have time to act as chair.

Hi everyone,

+1 to JB’s proposal — we fully support the idea of hosting Iceberg Summit 2026
in Europe in addition to NA.

We’ve been organizing multiple Iceberg-focused meetups across Europe and have
consistently seen strong attendance and enthusiasm from the community. There’s
clearly a growing and highly engaged user base here.

Many attendees specifically asked for a European summit — not only to get a
deeper understanding of Iceberg, but also to exchange ideas, learn from
real-world implementations, and connect with fellow practitioners. A dedicated
event in Europe would be an excellent way to meet this demand and further grow
the ecosystem.

Happy to help make this happen.

Best,
Viktor

Hi everyone,

We had Iceberg Summit 2025 in April this year, and I think we can say
both on site and virtual days were a great success.
It was a great opportunity to gather the community and super
interesting discussions about the future of Apache Iceberg.

I would like to propose Iceberg Summit 2026 NA in the same spirit as
2025 (hybrid event).
Why NA ? Because I would also like to discuss the Iceberg Summit 2026 in Europe.
The reason is to easily gather the European community about Iceberg,
same format as in NA.
I discussed with Viktor about an European event, and we think it's possible.

Thoughts ?

JB
