Hi all,

I am Bart Naudts, the Head of Technology of CodeLaser, a small Belgian software
house developing refactoring software for Java and Kotlin. We have used
ignite-core 2.x as a test case for our modularization offering. You find a
report here:
https://codelaser.io/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/ignite-modularization-2026-09.html

I am writing to this list first of all as a courtesy to let you know we used
your project for this purpose, and that we use it as “evidence” of the
capabilities of our engine on our website. However, since we are keen open
source software advocates — our refactoring engine is built on top of
maddi<https://github.com/CodeLaser/maddi>, my open source static analyzer for
Java and Kotlin — we are offering you the free use of our tool for a
modularization effort of ignite-core 2.x.

You can read in the report that CodeLaser’s refactor engine is a deterministic
tool that can be driven by an LLM. The latter was the case for the ignite-core
modularization: since I had no prior knowledge of your code base, there were
decisions along the modularization process that the LLM made without even
involving myself. The end result is simply a proof that breaking the large type
cycle can be done. It just may not have been done in the way that makes the
most sense to the developers.

When we involve the actual developers of a code base in this process, the
modularization can become really valuable. If you are interested, we could redo
it with your input.

With kind regards

Bart
