All, This year, as in previous years, the ASF will apply as a participating organization to the Google Summer of Code [1]. Over the years (I am told) the ASF has been able to complete hundreds of projects successfully; and some prior students are now active contributors.
All the Apache projects have been asked to raise JIRA tickets to capture ideas for projects. If one of these tickets gets selected as a GSOC project then there is a need to be a mentor [2], but I'm confident that can be covered either by me or one of the other committers. So, if you have any ideas for Isis (or you think that existing Isis issues might be a good fit), please raise them: - Just create issues in JIRA, label them with gsoc2013, and they will show up at [3]. - Be as specific as possible when describing your idea. Include the programming language, the tools and skills required, but try not to scare potential students away. - They are supposed to learn what's required before the program starts. Use labels, e.g. for the programming language (java, c, c++, erlang, python, brainfuck, ...) or technology area (cloud, xml, web, foo, bar, ...). fyi, I have created one already [4] ... per the discussions had here on a DSL for Isis. General discussions about this are on the public [email protected] list; see also [5] there is also a private list for would-be mentors to subscribe to, which I can tell you if you are interested in mentoring. But for now, I'm just interested in getting some ideas captured into Jira. Thanks!
