I still don't see why this would help. the vault serialization depends on the 
context, so a single node might be exported as single docview (.content.xml) or 
as a directory or as a binary file or as a full coverage aggregate. 

there are plenty of tools that allow for quick synchronization that even take 
into account the proper workspace filters.

I just don't what to add a feature to the API that as IMO no value and can be 
solved differently.
