I was actually talking to Marco about this at SemTech and he was also showing me some of the stuff they've been doing themselves with column stores.
Essentially the approach seems to be use a row per subject and then have the column names be predicates and the values be the objects. In DB2 at least it seems they have to do some trickery around the fact that their relational tables max at a few thousand columns and subjects with multiple objects on the same predicate.
