+1 to this change
Historically when this code was developed the larger product that the Jena JDBC
portions were developed as part of for was Java 6 only so it was necessary that
the supporting JDBC libraries be Java 6 compliant.
We have now (finally) moved this product to Java 7 in the autumn of last year
so I see no reason for the Jena JDBC libraries to remain Java 6 compliant
