    Re squashing commits. Apparently, some projects do have such a policy - 
sort of moving from the details of initial development outside Apache to 
merging.  What is very important (and does not apply here) is that commits from 
different people don't get lost in cleaning up (except possibly if all under 
one Corporate CLA). All projects need a clear IP situation.
