As I said above, minimum would be to do a PR that upgrades to Lucene 5.3.3. I
think it would make sense to merge that first before trying to upgrade further,
into Lucene 6.
Meanwhile, also Lucene 6.3.0 has been released and it contains the LUCENE-7429
fix which should make it possible for us to upgrade to that version (see above
comment).
