I am not sure it's the correct strategy to just wait for Oleg completing
his work because we'll be late. Http2 is already live on many websites and
this will keep growing. Other commercial tools already have it.
I think it would be a failure if it was another 3rd party plugin instead of
being in CORE.
IMO, plugins manager should for example have been in JMeter Core not where
it is now, websocket also.

Regarding HTTP/2, In an ideal world we should either help him by starting a
branch and giving him feedback on our needs, or use an alternative
implementation like Netty which is for now more mature and live on many
tools.

IMO, Apache HTTP Components project has an issue, the number of
contributors is very low in regards of all the projects (Apache included)
that uses it.
If you look at the JIRA, Oleg has labeled a lot of JIRAs with helpneeded or
something similar.

I am sorry to tackle such things here, but I think it must be written
somewhere.

I am not sure it is that complex. Your experience with Netbeans which
supports that would be very helpful
