This has come up many times in the past, but I think now we're actually interested in exploring it. Whether GH is the best issue tracker or not, there's a lot of points in its favor:
* gh.com/jruby is our public-facing organization and set of repositories, so people are already looking there * Everyone has a GH account * We get auto-integration between issues, commits, users, and repositories * GH issues is simple (sometimes to a fault) so everyone can use it I agree with others that GH is not the *best* tracker, but it's by far the best *integrated* into the way we do dev. So I think we'd like to prototype a script to import from JIRA into GH issues. Here's criteria: * We want to keep issue numbers matching, so we want to migrate *en masse*. * We'd like to preserve comments on at least open issues, maybe with references to GH users or maybe not. * All issues should have links back to our current JIRA. * Initially, all components and milestones can simply match what we have in current JIRA Other than that, we just need a nice way to pull over fields that exist in JIRA into a nice format in GH issues. So...Douglas Campos has volunteered to look into a prototype migration script...maybe he needs help?
