I'm opening a new issue here, in the hopes of getting some attention to JRUBY-6235 ... which was marked resolved last October, even tho the issue is not resolved.
I've tested the attached script in 1.7.2 thru the current master, and they all fail the same way.
Unfortunately, this broken
{IO#read_nonblock}
behavior makes jRuby fail with the popular capistrano deployment library... if the user has a ProxyCommand directive in his/her SSH config file.
