Good suggestion.

Currently the status of the Sidebar is determined mainly by the view you are 
in. (request-context)  Eg. in Edit, Login, UserPref..., the Sidebar is 
collapsed, In View, Info, Attach... the Sidebar is visible.

This will require an additional user-preference cookie to store the status of 
the SideBar.
