Arturo Bernal commented on JSPWIKI-1258:
----------------------------------------

Checked in the code of master. PingWeblogsComFilter, in
org.apache.wiki.filters, is a page filter that uses the XML-RPC client library.
Nothing that ships with the main code configures it: the page filters are read
from the file named by jspwiki.filterConfig, by default /WEB-INF/filters.xml,
and the repository has no such file outside the test resources, so an
installation that does not add that filter never loads it. It is also the only
class of the main module that uses org.apache.xmlrpc (see JSPWIKI-204).

Limits: I did not check whether any known installation configures it, nor
whether the service that it pings still accepts the call. Leaving the issue
open for the decision to keep or to remove the filter.

> PingWeblogsComFilter which produces the "The Butt Ugly Weblog"
> which has the following documentation
> /**
>  *  A very dumb class that pings weblogs.com on each save.  INTERNAL USE ONLY
> SO FAR! Look, but don't use as-is.
>  */
> // FIXME: Needs to figure out when only weblogs have been saved.
> // FIXME: rpc endpoint must be configurable
> // FIXME: Should really be settable per-page.
> // FIXME: Weblog name has been set to stone
>
> Is this class really needed in version control
