scratch that, according to Kurt, we can use orm.xml to override the data types. 
There's an example in the source trunk, however it doesn't look like it has 
been updated in a while. Essentially, you'd have to write the xml that matches 
the annotated classes and make special alterations for the fields that you 
mentioned. Feel like attempting it Dima?
