not sure what happened, but it looks like
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-source-plugin</artifactId>
changed behaviors between v2.0 and 2.1 to longer install source jar's by
default. currently the pom does not specify the version number.
