Hey folks,

We here at LinkedIn are on our journey to move to Northguard and as such our
participation with Apache Kafka has lessened over the years. Despite not
actively contributing to Kafka anymore, we have developed and maintained Kafka
Cruise Control and made it available to the community which has gained wide
adoption across the users of Kafka.

As we move further towards full Northguard adoption and our Kafka footprint
shrinks, we also have made less investment in the Cruise Control project as
well. However, we don't want to let the project die within LinkedIn and force a
community fork. As such, we want to investigate relieving ourselves of
ownership and donating Cruise Control. We believe Apache Kafka is likely the
right spot for this overall to maintain close continuity with the core Kafka
project.

We'd like to begin a conversation on this and discuss what the process would
look like compared to other open source options. We have had discussions in the
past with Linux Foundation as well. If you could help identify who'd be the
right contact to start discussions with, I'd appreciate it!

Thanks,

Krit Petty,
Sr. Manager, Kafka, LinkedIn
