I don't think this is due to https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/KAFKA-4558, 
since the missing message is somewhere in the middle of the stream. If it were 
an instance of that ticket, then we should see missing messages at the 
beginning of the range. Also, the only tests which would suffer any problems 
due to KAFKA-4558 were those where the topic being verified already had data, 
which is not the case here.

Whatever the issue is, it is something else. I am looking at it.
