As regards the mailing lists, I tried to first subscribe to the User mailing list (via this website) but the web page came back stating I was already subscribed. However when I post to the User forum, although the post is accepted on the website it's rejected from the mailing list; I actually received an email stating this. So I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong. The persistence.xml file I used is taken from the source-code downloaded from the Packt website and I just modified the 'ConnectionURL' property to point to my remote Derby database. Could you elaborate on your answer about not having a database configuration and datasource reference in the same persistence.xml? I'm relatively new to JPA so please forgive the pretty basic questions.
