Hi Shane,
Our mailing lists are up now. I'm not sure which one is the correct one
for this thread however. I've CCed [email protected] to
make sure your response is recorded.
The questions you raise are rather difficult to answer authoritatively
especially longer term. What degree of certainty on your three points
is required to proceed with a decision? Beyond that what is the process
for making a decision? Who has the final say?
Kevin.

I presume this is the list of Podling committers/mentors, and that
your mailing lists aren't up yet?
My biggest concern would be Samsung Knox:
http://tsdr.uspto.gov/#caseNumber=85644046&caseType=SERIAL_NO&searchType=statusSearch
Given that it's a large company and seems to be quite a significant
new product for them, is anyone on the Apache Knox podling concerned
about a future Samsung request to change your name?
Separately, with such a common name that is often associated with
security, is the podling willing to work with any pre-existing
legitimate software products with KNOX in their name to ensure we
don't step on toes, and provide any requested attributions or
disambiguations on our site?
Separately, everyone here is crystal clear that users would never
reasonably confuse yammer/knox with Apache Knox? While the yammer
version seems S3 specific, given that Apache Knox is going to be a
security-type front end to a whole bunch of Hadoop-related services,
would we likely end up confusing their users?
In general I agree that the other software products noted in the
search are not likely to be confused with Apache Knox. Even though
several deal with security/encryption, it's clear they're for very
different types of users.

Hi all,
We've started the Knox incubator project (a perimeter security
system for Hadoop clusters) and ran the name search
(https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/PODLINGNAMESEARCH-25). While
there are other Knox projects related to security, none of them seems
close enough to be confusing. Does trademarks have concerns over the
name Knox for an incubator project. If you do have concerns, let us know
in the next week so that we can pick a new name.
Thanks,
Owen
