An option is to do nothing, it just make reviewing the release a tiny bit more 
difficult. But you may want to read [1]

BTW - this stops the build from completing. I had to not run the tests in order 
to get everything to compile.

It didn't on my machine and ran out of memory, but as they say your milage may 
vary.

Adding a couple of lines to README would IMO help, but again nothing is 
required.

IMO they probably shouldn’t, but that up to you as a project to decide upon. 
Perhaps note this [2][3].
