yes, that's already how it is implemented (update 1.2.X you will see ;-)

From a data point of view it's backwards compatible, but re Java
classes it's difficult to achieve if one
really wants to stay backwards compatible, whereas the chances that
people really extended these classes are
rather small. If we don't manage otherwise then I will send a list of
the classes we have problems with and
then the community shall discuss how we shall proceed.
