great idea. it's probably best to fix a date like "first thursday of the
month" and find a time that's either manageable for everybody's
timezones, or have two alternating times of day...
I guess most people here are around UTC + 1, but i don't know about
solprovider and doug...
I am in Pennsylvania, USA. UTC-4 now, UTC-5 in the winter.
Like Doug, I do not sleep much, and the times are erratic. I try to
force myself to bed before workdays, with varying success.
My life, highest priority first:
I usually work from 9am to 6pm weekdays. This was my first week of
college in over a dozen years, but it seems 2-4 hours of each day will
be spent on classwork. I spend a few minutes each morning and more in
the evening reading the Lenya MLs; many of my responses take a half
hour. I maintain friendships. I work on Lenya 1.3.
I am not setup to develop versions other than 1.3. The repository is
not the working directory; I manually copy updates for checkin (which
is very bad because I rarely build from the repository. Every so
often I create a new work area from the rep, build it, add our
publication from 1.2, migrate it, and test before starting new
development. That takes more than an hour that could be better used.)
I would like to change that. I would like to have the reps for 1.2.x,
1.3, and 1.4-trunk on my PC. I would like to be able to develop each
of them in place with the ability to mark some directories/files to
never be uploaded. (The content of my test publication contains
confidential information, and I do not want to take the time to clean
it each time I migrate it.)
I should update 1.2.x with the latest fixes to search. Search had no
changes in 6 months, but it would be good if 1.2.5 contained all of
the fixes. That would stop some of the inquiries on the User ML.
There are other bug fixes I notice as I work on 1.3 that could be
patched for 1.2 if I was setup to do it easily
I should update 1.3 more often and in smaller chunks. The "Virtual
Document" subsystem is ready, but I am waiting to finish the XML
editor before checking it in. That will be any day now, but I should
have a better system going forward.
I should use Eclipse for editing. I am still using Notepad, even
though I use Eclipse at my job.
I could evaluate and checkin bug fixes from Bugzilla for all versions,
including 1.4. My focus for new development will remain 1.3, but I
could do that when the block of time I can contribute is too short for
new development.
I welcome any suggestions (or links to documentation) for:
- setting up Eclipse
- for multiple repositories/branches
- blocking checkin of some directories/files
- with development in activities/branches that can be merged separately.
With that setup, I would enjoy collaborating on a Bugzilla Cleanup day.
I would also offer to help release 1.2.5. We have not had a gold
release since I became a Committer. (I hope those two are not
related.)
