hi *!

playing with the new ac gui, i came across two problems:

a) you cannot restrict access to a top-level page in live ac, because there is no "world" gui option, and every page inherits "world visit".

b) you can shoot yourself in the foot by deleting the auth ac permissions for admin, and then there is no way to get yourself out of that mess with the gui.

both problems, as well as number of other inconsistencies in the site tab, could be alleviated by introducing a non-editable, non-movable, always-thereable root page.

in the gui, that boils down to making the "authoring" node in the sitetree clickable. that would allow users to paste pages at the top level, to edit global subtree policies, and it would give the developers a nice dependable place to point to in case of errors, as that node is always guaranteed to be there. (if you don't get my point, try deleting the index/ node. pooof.)

for live, the index node must be skipped, of course. one possible behaviour would be to re-direct to the first node in the sitetree, no matter whether it's called "index/"

and thorsten, before you bite my head off, let it be noted that i consider this suggestion 1.4.1 stuff ;-)

regards,

jörn
